Honest Leadership for Deltona
I have been in leadership in the Deltona area for almost 17 years and have tried to always serve diligently with a life of Honesty, Integrity and Respect of others. These are core values for me in how I lead and treat others. People around me can attest to this. I think it is time to bring those skills into the leadership arena of Deltona. Furthermore, these core values are important because they lead to TRUST and TRUST in the “coin of the realm” in any relationship, whether it be marriage, parenting, but especially in the relationship between elected officials and the electorate. Somehow this seems to have broken down in Deltona City Government and this needs to change.
During the years I have served the Deltona Community I have come to understand the needs of District 5 people. As the pastor of a large church in the area, I have had the opportunity to minister to all kinds of folks in District 5 through distributing food to the needy and events such as the our Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner in which we provide meals, not only for the needy, but for many of our men in uniform, including fire and police. I have had the privilege to be able to help many people through counseling and providing various avenues of support in people’s time of tragedy and need. Through these events you really get to know people.
My Campaign Platform is seen here. These are the things I
would like to see implemented if I am elected. I believe we need to get spending under control and relieve the tax burden on people who are struggling to pay their bills (especially water bills!). Controlled spending can be done! I have had to do that very thing for many years. I have had to see that a large budget is balanced every year. You can eliminate waste and pace yourself without cutting back in needful areas such as police enforcement and fire safety. It can be done. Other cities have done it and so can we. It takes a resolve to be disciplined in spending–something governments have not done well lately, including ours.
I believe in the goodness and fairness of the people of Deltona District 5. We see the need for taxes and don’t mind paying until we see things that seem wasteful and frivolous. When we are told one thing about tax breaks and amendments but then the opposite happens. When we see small fortunes spent in hiring, firing, rehiring, “firing compensations,” and the like that at the very best appear confusing then we feel our taxes are being used wastefully. That leads to distrust and remember Trust (Honesty and Integrity) is the all-important bond between elected official and the electorate.
I also believe it would be nice to see more of our people working locally rather than driving to Orlando and elsewhere. That can be accomplished by bringing industry and business into Deltona. That would also help relieve the tax burden on the people. But, that is not going to happen until Deltona begins to adjust her ways to be appealing to these businesses. Obviously, that will take time, but the right people need to be in leadership to prepare Deltona for the next wave of growth that is coming.
I would also like to see Deltona become a “real town.” Most of us grew up in a town that had a sense of community. There was a unity in an identity. Here, there is much fragmentation.. I will work hard to bring people together. People of all faiths, colors and creeds. I believe everyone is important and every voice needs to be heard. Everyone should be welcome and feel a part!
Leadership You Can Trust!
